Welcome back to the channel! Eevee has been waiting to say hello to you again! Say Hi Eevee... in this video we're going to be journeying into the mysteries of why Shiba Inu's cheeks are so darn squishy [cutaway - Finding Nemo] i shall call him squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my squishy and as a heads up it's not that simple. So make sure you stick around to the end so you get the full story on why those cheeks are so darn pinchable! [breathes] okay... calm down. they're just cute. *wink* you're gonna see a lot of pinched cheeks in this video so timestamp your favorite ones and put them in the comments below got it? let's go. So first things first... why so squishy?! You've all seen squirrels and hamsters they have big chubby cheeks and they put food in there and then they save it or store it for later well that's the same with Shiba Inu's... they just store food in their little squishy cheeks for later okay okay that's a lie. No, no. That's not how we're going to start this video rewind let's go again. The modern day Shiba Inu and all its characteristics including the chubby cheeks comes from three historical bloodlines of Shiba Inu these are: the Mino Shiba Inu, the Say'in Shiba Inu and the Shinshu Shiba Inu. There is a fourth called the Jomon Shiba Inu but that is a lesson for another day (as it's a recreation breed) [Cutaway - The Simpsons] I'm learnding After the horror that was World War II and a subsequent viral outbreak the Shiba Inu population was absolutely decimated and Japan bought in a national breeding program to bring together three historical bloodlines to make the modern day Shiba Inu which is the one that we all know and love and see on our YouTube videos and TikTok app every single day i'll drop some background on why the Shiba Inu population was decimated in the description below if anybody wants some further reading lots of character traits and physical traits from these three various shiba breeds came together meant bringing these bloodlines together with one of them being squishy squishy squishy cheeks! now it's just my opinion, but the San'In Shiba Inu and the Shinshu Shiba Inu look so fluffy and they have such pinchable cheeks i feel like this is where they got that physical trait from i'd like to say that's the question answered but we're not done yet [Cutaway - Spongebob time card] a few moments later i've covered how they were bred (bread) but we haven't explored the why so let's explore the why they're so squishy if we're talking about shiba inu's squishy cheeks we should probably be talking about a shiba inu's squishy jowls because their cheeks are their jowls and the size shape and malleability of those are based on various factors one of them is genetic which we've just covered but it could be for some of these other reasons... stretchy jowls can make eating easier for a shiba inu. More space for more food, yum yum. [Cutaway - TikTok video] nom nom nom dog Large jowls can act as a defensive measure. All that extra skin and fat can keep everything behind it safe and secure. They can help keep a head afloat when a Shiba Inu is swimming and our most likely candidate is that it helps with tracking and just before i elaborate on that anymore i wanted to let you know that i have a patreon where you can support me and my content creation i have a big following over on TikTok, eevee.bork, we also have a modest following on instagram if you want to come see some cute pictures of eevee and we have a friendly and inclusive discord community so if you want to see my content drops and talk about cute doggos come join us over on the discord and if you're enjoying this video drop me a like below and also leave me some comments i'd love to hear from you i want to engage with this community more it's amazing Shiba Inu's were bred (bread) to hunt small fast-moving prey and if that prey dived into a bush or brushwood A shiba inu would follow it and it would have to navigate through that bush or brushwood their jowls as well as their whiskers can help them navigate through very fine spaces literally their big chonky head will tell them how big and chonky they really are. i get really wise old man vibes from Shibas and the whiskers just under their jawline... look at that! [Cutaway - Kill Bill PAI MEI sensei] *strokes beard* i'm also aware that male Shibas that haven't been neutered may have less fat around their cheeks and female Shibas that have been spayed may hold a little bit extra fat in their cheeks there is no golden rule to this though every Shiba is different. You've seen so many cheeks pinched in this video tell me what one's your favorite in the comments below and to celebrate the pure joy that is squishing Shiba Inu's cheek i've released a brand new sticker on my shop shop.eeveebork.com you can buy the squish cheek shiba sticker.
