Welcome back to the channel everyone! Look who it is, Eevee! in this video we're going to be talking about Shiba Inu grooming and how to get the best possible coat on your Shiba Inu without going to a professional groomers. I'd love Eevee to go to a professional groomers but this lady she's too sassy. If you have a Shiba Inu that you're not too confident taking to the groomers or if you want to see how dramatic Shibas can be when it comes to bath time then this video is for you. notice i said bath [Bar-th] not bath [Bah-th] that's because i'm from the south of England... everyone from the north of england i'm sure you're gonna leave me some comments below... There are loads of dog grooming at home tips in this video so make sure you watch the end to catch every single last one. If you enjoy the video make sure to hit the like and subscribe button if you have any questions on dog grooming please drop them in the comments below. let's go. [The Simpsons - McBain - let's get silly to get off to the best bath time with a Shiba Inu make sure you have the following things ready: Dog shampoo. dog conditioner. a non-slip mat. a shower head. a comb. a slicker brush. a towel. a hair dryer or pet blower if you have one. lots of treats. i like to have music on to drown out the Shiba Screams. Some dogs do well with a happy hoodie so you can try these out if your pet gets quite anxious. If you're in need of any of those items i've dropped some links in the description below but with all that stuff ready we can get started Eevee hates bath time so the first thing i have to do is find her where she'll be hiding somewhere coax her out with some treats put her on a leash and then take her up to the bathroom once she's in the bathroom we have to be as calming as possible, I give her many treats to reinforce the positivity of the bathroom and the space but i have been doing this for seven years and she still hasn't been convinced yet... i make sure the non-slip mat is down put her in the bath and then i turn on the shower making sure it runs through until it's warm the last thing an anxious Shiba needs is an ice blast in the bath. I start by coating eevee's fur just in a layer of water making sure it gets into her undercoat that gives us a good base to lather up when we shampoo in a sec and as you can tell Eevee isn't enjoying this process very much but she just reluctantly accepts it This is the part that Eevee hates the most; shampooing. She gets really touch sensitive when we rub the shampoo into her fur. So i make sure to do it really softly really gently making sure that i'm not showing any restriction or any force on her to minimize any anxiety she might have this then works into a great lather which is perfect for keeping her coat clean i start with her chest area because that's where she's most comfortable being touched and then work down the body into the coat i make sure that i don't shampoo her tail because she really really does not like her tail being shampooed despite seven years of experience through bath times Eevee still gets overwhelmed so we just have to read her body language and slow down the process and change our pace to make sure that she doesn't overreact to the situation as her anxiety is at an all-time high during this process and we all know how dramatic Shiba Inus can be anyway now it's time to rinse it all off i first rinse her over with a low pressure and then i move over to our high pressure to make sure that it gets into that undercoat and really washes out the shampoo and the high pressure isn't actually that high it just definitely gets underneath that top coat and once i've gone through all of that shampooing process i do it all over again for a second time i've found from the second shampoo that it really helps with the Shiba's fluffy coat it helps remove extra loose hair, scale and debris that can build up on the coat that the first shampoo just didn't get out. I promise i don't like to torture Eevee and i do this again just as gently as the first time but it really makes such a difference and now we've finished shampooing it's over to conditioner a good dog conditioner will minimize any skin dryness that can happen after shampooing if your dog is prone to scratching try a conditioner if that doesn't help go get them allergy tested we apply the conditioner just as gently as we did the shampoo and wait a few minutes before we rinse the conditioner clings to her fur a little bit more so we have to be extra thorough when we're rinsing it out that's the end of the washing process now over to drying there are several different degrees of how thorough you want to dry your Shiba Inu historically i used to use a towel and then i would let Eevee in the garden to dry off naturally however over the years and because Shiba Inu's have such a thick double coat i've actually invested in a pet blower which is just a very strong hair dryer this takes about percent of the moisture out of their coat and makes the process a lot quicker it also helps to reduce further loose fur in typical Shiba style, Eevee doesn't like the pet blower either. She didn't like the hairdryer. She doesn't like the pet blower. So we have to take it easy when we come to drying Eevee's fur and as we start this process i want to give a quick shout out to my patreons (Non, Mr,J & Slyborkster) thank you so much for supporting my content creation. me and Eevee love spending this time producing content for you all oh and if you haven't already check out eevee.bork on instagram and TikTok to see cute pictures and funny stuff when it comes to blow drying Eevee you can see that i'm following the natural flow of her coat i'm going from the head all the way down to the tail following that direction of fur growth this helps naturally push the water out of the fur in the direction the fur is facing and once her coat's a little bit more dry then i can start fluffing it up a little bit more it might not show up on camera but there is a lot of loose fur flying around me at this point it gets to a point where i can't see if the blow dryer is letting any more moisture leave her coat so at that point i stopped it's probably about 80% done and that's when we move on to brushing a Shiba Inu Brush brush brush. it's a Shiba owner's motto. I've found that brushing Eevee is always best after she is mostly dry i avoid brushing her while she's actually having a bath because it pulls on her fur and she gets really anxious and agitated today Eevee wanted to be brushed outside the bath so we are brushing just in front of our bath brushing a double-coated dog whilst their coat is almost dry but not fully dry is really best to pull out all the excess loose fur i recommend running a wide comb through their fur to make sure there's no matting or any misdirection of their fur followed by a slicker brush this particular slicker brush has straight sides and hooked sides i'm using the straight sides because it's less aggressive on her fur the hook sides will tug at the fur slightly more which makes Eevee unhappy so i'm going to be avoiding doing that today keep brushing until most of the loose fur comes out or at a reasonable stopping point sometimes Shibas just don't stop shedding. When you're done you can do little extras like applying Paw Butter to their paw pads this keeps their paws really soft which is an extra lovely touch and of course there's grooming the nails of which Eevee is hypersensitive to and probably needs its own video Eevee always has pent-up energy after bath time and i actually caught her having zoomies (Shiba 500) straight after this bath time look at her go. Once she calms down she actually then starts grooming herself even though she's just had a shower so i make sure that i rub this special toothpaste gel along her teeth which gives her fresh breath clean teeth if she's gonna groom herself at least she's doing it without her breath smelling like fish. She'll spend the rest of the day naturally drying and by the next morning you'll see what the true results are for home grooming You look gorgeous, Eevee! Professional groomers do an incredible job and if you have a Shiba that's happy and confident enough to go to a pet groomers then i please recommend that you do however that option is not available for everybody and i hope this video has been some help for you. If you found this interesting please tell me in the comments below which part resonated with you along with this video you can buy the eevee bathtime shiba sticker on shop.eeveebork.com. eevee hates bath time but she looks super cute in this sticker.
